Paper Folding Workshop / Rule Based Art (27/09/11)

This week's exercise was to create a set of rules and follow them to create new shapes.

My rules were as follows:
Start with a triangle, than:
  1. Add a square
  2. Remove a triangle
  3. Add a square

After creating a series of shapes, I than transferred them onto tracing paper which than allowed me to play around with the shape lines and structure, making them from a flat piece of paper into 3D shapes.

(This is an example of one of the transferred shapes, which I folded into different structures.)

The purpose of this exercise was to create new shapes which could than be transferred into interesting pattern pieces or used as decoration and embellishment. I found this session really interesting as the shapes I created were different and interesting every time and by manipulating and folding them I created unique 3D structures.
